Microsoft will offer KB4577586 as an optional download on the Windows Update and WSUS (Windows Server Update Services) platforms. "If you installed Adobe Flash Player manually from another source, it will not be removed," Microsoft said in a support document. Microsoft noted that the update removes only the Flash Player installed by Windows. Users can select the appropriate-to-their-OS version of KB4577586, then download and apply it to their PC. The update, also identified as KB4577586, "permanently removes Adobe Flash Player as a component of the Windows OS devices." Microsoft seeded "Update for Removal of Adobe Flash Player" to the Microsoft Update Catalog on Oct 26. It is likely that the update for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Embedded 8 Standard will also follow the suit.But Microsoft has a plan to scrub Flash from all Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 PCs this year, a plan that doesn't rely on users taking action. The October update mentioned above cannot be uninstalled once applied. In July 2021, the KB4577586 update will be included in the Latest Cumulative Update for Windows 10, versions 1607, version 1507 as well as in the Monthly Rollup and the Security Only Update for Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Embedded 8 Standard. “It will also be included in every subsequent Latest Cumulative Update,” Microsoft said. In June, the update will be included in the Preview Update for Windows 10, version 1809 and above platforms.
